Building On Our Success

At Online50 we have been asking our partner firms of accountants and users what they want from a provider of hosting services. We already enjoy an unrivalled position for our hosting service, enabling accountants and their clients to work together on the same data at the same time from different locations.

As a direct result of feedback we will be holding a 'Partner Day' (see below) on November 27th. This is a forum which will allow our partners to meet and share their own success stories, as well as hear from us and software vendors about updates. We expect to hold these days regularly according to demand from our partners.

As a further result of the feedback we have received we are now planning the introduction of new services. It will take some time to introduce everything that we are seeking to implement, particularly as we will need to ensure that appropriate terms can be agreed with vendors concerned. As a pointer to some of the feedback that we have received our users should expect to see the introduction of more software on our platform, as well as further web based services in the near future.

Online50 Partner Day

You are invited to an event at the ICAEW in London on 27th November 2007 that we are hosting for our partners. At Online50 we are committed to providing our service through our partner firms of accountants. This is because we see that our role is to provide a platform from which accountants can deliver their services. The day is an ideal opportunity for our partners to meet and discuss how our platform is used and to discover ‘best practice’ tips from the Online50 community. We will be having presentations from existing partners, a chance to look at some of the developments we have made and have scheduled for calendar year 2008, and there will also be visiting software vendors.

Online50 Partner Day 27th November 2007
Chartered Accountants' Hall
One Moorgate Place
London
EC2R 6EA

We are still finalising the agenda and list of speakers, but we ask all partners to please reserve this date. Attendance will be limited by the capacity of the venue so please contact your account manager to reserve your place early. We will provide a hot buffet - those who have previously visited Chartered Accountants Hall will know of its excellent reputation for catering!

Infrastructure Upgrades

As part of our ongoing development of our infrastructure we have ordered 14 new 64 bit IBM servers. These latest generation servers will not only increase our capacity for existing services, they also allow us a range of options for new services that we can deliver to our users. Although application vendors are not currently writing 64 bit versions of their applications, many server based systems are moving to a 64 bit platform and these new servers will allow some exciting new services to be provided. Watch this space for news of developments!

If you are interested in our infrastructure you may find this PDF brochure of interest.

Sage 50 2008 Now Available

The latest version of Sage 50 accounts software, 2008, has now been released by Sage. It has been made available on our platform, and any user or partners that would like to move to the latest version will be able to do so. Key features with the 2008 version include:

  • NEW VAT Ledger
  • Electronic VAT Submissions (UK & Ireland)
  • Improved Management Reports
  • Integration with Sage Payment Solutions (PROTX) for MOTO (Mail Order/Telephone Order) Credit Card transactions

On our service upgrades are not compulsory, but are included in the monthly software license fees paid. Users will know that it is usual practice for software vendors to release patches for software after it has been released. We expect that users who do not need the new features will not rush to adopt the upgrade (see the breakdown of versions we presented in our June 2007 newsletter), but it is available for everyone who would benefit from these new features, or who would like to use the software. To request an upgrade please contact our registrations department via the helpdesk on 0871 384 3511

Building Plans

You told us you wanted new ways to work together
we're planning new services to meet those needs!

Case Study: Magnum Chilled Desserts

Online50 partner firm Alliotts have been providing an outsourcing service to Magnum Chilled Desserts Ltd since January 2007. As Magnum Chilled Desserts deal with supermarkets with a 24/7 electronic system it is vital that orders are not lost and Andy Kemp, their Financial Controller, decided that outsourcing the accounts department would ensure that capacity was available when needed. The product began shipping to supermarkets in April 2007, and Andy Kemp has maintained control because he is able to log into the hosted system for real time from his office. You can access the full case study PDF file here to read more.

[ Note from editor: As someone who enjoys indulging (occasionally!) in these products I too am absolutely delighted that Alliotts are ensuring that they remain on supermarket shelves! ]
